Keyboard access information

This page lists the accesskeys used throughout this website and are intended to help users who have difficulty in using pointing devices such as a mouse or who prefer to use keyboard shortcuts.

This web site uses the UK Government access keys system and the following information summarises each of the keyboard shortcut commands available to you.

The key combination you use will depend on your browser and operating system. Here is a list of the most common. If your browser or operating system are not listed, you should refer to your documentation for help with this functionality.

Access Keys

Access keys can be used to move quickly to common pages without the need for a mouse.

Alt + 0 – Accessibility information
Alt + 1 – Home Page
Alt + 3 – Site map
Alt + s – Skip Navigation
Alt + t – Top of Page
Alt + 8 - Terms and Conditions

Access keys are used in different ways on different browsers.

On Windows

• Internet Explorer 5 and above: Alt & [access key], Enter 
• Mozilla, Firefox 1.x, Netscape 6 and above: Alt & (access key)
• Firefox 2.x and above: Alt & Shift & (access key)
• Opera: Shift & Esc & (Key number) (or Shift, then Esc, then (access key).

On Mac OS

•  Mozilla, Firefox, Safari, Netscape: Ctrl & (access key)
•  Opera: Shift & Esc (access key)
•  Internet Explorer: Ctrl & (access key), Enter

Tab key

You can also use the Tab key on your keyboard to move between links on a page. A single press of a Tab highlights the next link, Shift+Tab highlights the previous link.

This site has been designed to conform to the WAI double AA rating where HTML is used. Where documents are made available in other formats, conformance has not been achieved.

Increasing text size

Some users might find screen text easier to read by increasing the size at which text is displayed. To do this you should simply adjust your browser's settings.

This tool is available in the menu of various browsers as follows:

• Internet Explorer 5, 5.5, 6 (PC): View > Text size
• Firefox, Netscape 8: View > Text size
• Opera: View > Zoom
• Netscape 6, 7, Mozilla: View > Text zoom
• Safari (Mac): View > Make text bigger
• Internet Explorer 5 (Mac): View > Text zoom
